The discussion concerns the book Nostalgia. Memoria e passaggi tra le sponde dell’Adriatico (Roma, Edizioni di storia e letteratura, 2010, pp. 276), edited by Rolf Petri, who offers a brief outline of the volume contents and scholarly purposes. The sociologist Paolo Jedlowski and the philosopher Giacomo Marramao comment on the book from a multi-disciplinary viewpoint, stressing its pertinence to the domain of "cultural studies". They also investigate the complex and controversial relationships connecting nostalgia, nation building and the rituals of memory. A part of the ample debate aroused by their theses is also published here below.
