In the first part, published in the previous issue (no. 119/2012), the history of schizophrenia and of the biological treatments for this disorder were briefly reviewed. In this second and final part, the history of psychological treatments are presented. In particularly, the history of psychoanalytic treatments of schizophrenia are reviewed, and two lines of research are presented: the Boston study by Gunderson et al. published in 1984 on psychotherapy of schizophrenia, and the studies on Expressed Emotion (EE) by Leff and others in the 1980s with families of schizophrenic patients. Finally, the results of these studies are discussed.
