The article focuses on youth on-line participation to civic movements as a driver to foster civic engagement. The authors carried on a quantitative analysis, by using an online survey addressed to young people who took part in one or more civic movements. The authors identified three different youth profiles of civic engagement, which were drawn in terms of age, gender features, communications attitudes, main motivation/activities in civic initiatives. The authors argue that it is possible to highlight a relationship between online participation and development of social capital in those movements where young people were able to translate their virtual engagement in concrete actions, with positive outcomes for the collectivity.
