The author starts from the work of the Lausanne Group to conceptualize the theory of dual polarity as a speciesspecific area for becoming a human being. This theory is discussed in the epistemological framework of complexity. According to the author the distinction between dual, triadic and multi-personal is a false problem: environment is normally multifaceted and various, but the relationship with the subject-ego is always dual to the extent that the context becomes one in the Gestalt perception of a group of two or more persons as the other pole of interaction. An individual can relate to a group or a multitude but always through a polarity that reduces the elements to two: I vs. the other/s. the author tries to reach a deeper understanding of becoming a human being when one becomes a parent, stressing the delicate passage from couple to parental couple to family. The article ends with a brief list of some possible meanings of the investment made by the marital/parental couple on their infant.
