The paper refers to a training intervention conducted within the Ministry Education Plan "I CARE" for the years 2007/2008 and 2008/2009, geared to the inclusion of children with disabilities in order to create a real inclusive dimension in the Italian school system. The intervention stems from a request for consultancy made by some school teachers who had already collaborated with the School of Specialisation in Health Psychology of Rome’s Sapienza University, in a project commissioned by the Ministry of Education and aimed at the Italian adaptation of the Skills-for-Life (SfL) educational model. About 60 primary and lower secondary school teachers took part in the training programme. The methodology shows how the model focuses on developing psychosocial skills, on systemically involving all those concerned in schools, and on the importance of the process and recursive progress of the various initiatives that the people concerned intend to promote. Specifically, the authors aim to: document the whole process, by highlighting steps and phases peculiar to the training process started up; confirm the effectiveness and adaptability of the SfL model to the complexity and changeability of the Italian education context, in this case called upon to create an inclusive dimension for pupils with disabilities; experimentally verify the propaedeutical value of the model in the many different health promotion initiatives conducted in the Italian school system. The positive value of this experience is not only borne out by the significant consensus of the teachers concerned, but also by the formal recognition (the "GOLD" award) on the part of the authorities of the Region Tuscany.
