The conceptualization of group psychoanalysis has had a difficult life in psychoanalysis. Starting from Freud and from the assumptions of some other theories, the Author proposes a personal reading of groups through the use of some concepts taken from the complexity epistemology. In particular, the A. sees groups as self-organizing systems, as emergent competence arising from the recursive circularity of all the interactions originated by its members. He also believes that groups have their own self-organization, a dominion of pertinence and of possible disorders. The A. also tries to underline the recursive circularity of the interactions and the rise of attractors that define the group’s state and drift (i.e. the developments containing the history and the traces of the interactions among the internal elements, the members, and the outside world). The existence of a congruence between the drift of the subjects and of the Group system authorizes a view of the group and the possibility of an intervention starting either from what emerges in the whole group or from what any member of the group is expressing (as per the principle of the hologram). These hypotheses are described in a case report.
