In the last decades, the stakeholder engagement (SE) has been gradually confirmed as a need of the management; the current financial and economic crisis, however, pointing out the weaknesses of a business management sometimes opaque and speculative, has led to a renewed interest in the topic also enhancing the role of the SE in the theoretical debate (Tanno, Zappi, 2009). The paper analyzes the impact of the stakeholder engagement orientation on the performance of Italian banks, with the aim to reach directions for an effective and efficient management that maximizes the positive effects on profitability. In the survey, a sample of Italian commercial banks for the years 2005-2011 is analyzed, using the multiple linear regression model. Our result confirms, for the period observed, the positive impact of the stakeholder engagement orientation. If confirmed by further investigation, such a result could produce specific implications in terms of suggestions of best practices and for Italian banking intermediaries.
