The historiography of labour, workers’ worlds and organizations has recently undergone extensive changes and a significant widening of scope. Since capitalist globalization has in the long run involved the emigration of masses of people across countries and continents, the history of labour has become world history by studying the forms of work not referable to the classic wage relationship. Yet the study of associated labour, a story that has continued even after the Internationals ceased to exist, remains an essential tool to understand the genuine experience of workers in the times and spaces of world history.

Keywords: Historiography of labour, international working men’s associations, workers’ world, migrations, world history
