It’s widely known that society gets modified by new technologies. The way old and new media interact is an issue extensively argued, especially among those concerned with communication studies and the impact of technologies on social system evolution. What i’ll be discussing about in this essay is the coming of the Internet and the way it’s changed modality through which italians get informed and consume news. Television, a undisputed window on the world until recently, is increasingly complemented by the Internet. From the survey conducted by the Larica’s Observatory of the news-italia.org of the University of Urbino Carlo Bo, emerge many differences in consumption of news and media approach and it can be observed a new divide related to territory, age, culture. The ultimate idea is that Italians build, ever more autonomously (prosumers), their ‘informative cover’, their media patchwork made of news that come by means of old-mainstream media and new ones so called social, that are produced also independently though. Not Everyone, however, do it likewise, in fact in the construction of their (and our) information landscape some variables that define important information divide are to be taken into account.
