This paper examines some critical aspects of psychotherapy in a public Mental Health Centre with the intent of underlining the importance of context over technicality. Emotional symbolisations and relational dynamics - within the triad "person/ environment of coexistence /service" - should be the target of psychotherapeutic analysis and practice. The author hence examines critically the current reductionist approach in the relationship between the individual / environment and therapeutic goals; approach that overlooks the institutional and organizational features of a mental health service. The author suggests that brief psychological intervention is a sustainable practice, in a context of limited resources, if it is not applied as a pre-packaged technique. Brief psychological intervention, that takes into account the institutional and organisational aspects of the service, can address everyday emotional complaints and more serious disorders too. As a final point, the author describes a case study of a complex clinical situation that illustrates a possible application of his theoretical constructs
