Couple therapy requires the psychotherapist to focus, at the same time, both on intrasubjective and on intersubjective dynamics, working on the identity processes that will allow the individual to mantain a coherent self meaning within a romantic relationship. Emotions in therapy are recognized, contextualized, explained while creating a story in which individual meanings and their engagement in the couple emerge. In psychotherapy emotions and cognitions create stories at various levels of abstraction: in the case presented through the Systemic Narrative and Family Sculptures, in the cognitive post rationalist model this happens through the reconstruction of important events in "slow motion". The comparison between different models allows many considerations on how to work on emotional immediacy by transforming it in narratives through the use of different methods that, however, all point to an elaboration that should always be respectfull of individual meanings.
