L’articolo ha l’obiettivo di osservare come una popolazione partcolarmente vulnerabile, i giovani provenienti da famiglie operaie a basso reddito, possano essere a richio di esclusione sociale in due diversi contesti nazionali e locali. Infatti, esistono condizioni specifiche (a livello locale, istituzionale e politico) che possono aumentare o diminuire il rischio di esclusione sociale e povertà. L’autore si concentra in particolare sulle traiettorie, le esperienze e le pratiche sociali dei giovani residenti in quartieri "difficili" e a basso reddito. Uno degli obiettivi è quello di capire se, ma soprattutto come e perché, il fatto di vivere in un luogo ad alta concentrazione di povertà possa influenzare le opportunità e le traiettorie dei giovani residenti.
