The paper discusses labour policies and tools introduced by French Government in recent years in order to make labour markets more inclusive from a gener ational point of view, in a country with strong imbalances - worsened by the current crisis - among social groups due to age. The case studies considered show how firms (of large, medium and small size) have put into effect measures and tools foreseen by the law in their human resources development processes, promoting a management "by age". The last part of the paper deals with the first results of policies implementation, in order to understand their benefits and weaknesses. The theoretical frame adopted draws on sociological and economic literature on diversity management and social inclusion, as well as on guidelines and recommendations of international agencies.
