Oral historians use audio or camcorders to record the interviews they carry out. In both cases the focus of their attention is the testimony of the person interviewed and the way the narration is produced. Yet video-recording gives supplementary opportunities in comparison with simple voice-recording, and proves particularly precious in group interviews and situational surveys, let apart its documentary value in getting the context, the expressions and gestures of the narrators. Furthermore, the use of filmed interviews not only as mere textual resources, but as true audiovisual documents suitable for video-essay production, requires a specific hermeneuthics the A. discusses on the basis of his twenty years long experience.
