Passions of love. The aim of this paper is to develop a detailed discussion on love relations and the ubiquitous fortune that love and its vicissitudes display during a psychoanalytic treatment. The roots of love are there in early childhood, however childhood experiences, by themselves, are not enough to explain the complex and endless vicissitudes love encounters and develops during a lifetime. Love plays a pivotal role in the formation of idealization and the development of illusion and disillusionment, but it changes in time, through the evolution of the individual and society. Love is a compound of many emotions, diverse memories and many needs that remained ungratified in childhood and that seek resolution in adulthood. Working as psychoanalyst I often found myself following the many form of falling in love of my patients and their evolutions. This is the reason I chose to discuss and re-explore more in detail some of the fundamental principles of the psychoanalytic theory in connection with the concept of love, passion and its vicissitudes.
Keywords: Eros, libido, idealization, illusion, disillusion, oedipus complex, feeling of nostalgia.
