Bearing in mind that adolescence is assumed to be one of the major developmental transitions in life, in which the body is valued by the individual as the primary actor in the structuring and integration of an ever-changing identity, this article gives an account of an experience of clinical group work with adolescents and pre-adolescents with motor disabilities. Established as a tool to give young people with disabilities a chance to reflect on their own specific experiences, "Gruppo Cerchio" helped disabled adolescents express their feelings and adapt to reality, in a period of life when they are challenged with the construction of their own identity, with its inherent physical and psychological difficulties and its strong connections to issues of dependency and peer integration. A developmental path was finally pointed out and promoted through the "Gruppo Cerchio" experience: at first, the young people involved showed some difficulties in relating to each other, but they ended up creating a wider space for communication and peer interaction, enabling the authors to record a shift towards more "developmental" solutions to the many challenges faced by adolescents with motor disorders.
