On the basis of the analysis of 28 autobiographical narrative interviews the article explores the effects of the crisis on young people of foreign origin (of different gender, age, time of residence, education and nationality) living in the south of Italy. Understanding what means for them, in a context of limited opportunities and in times of crisis, entering the labour market, finding their way to adulthood and imaging their future are the main aims of this contribution, which consists in four sections. The first analyzes the work - the current, the desired and the ideal one - and shows a widespread satisfaction, although the work conditions are in general quite bad. The second, that deals with the vision of the future, reveals the existence of very low aspirations and a diffused difficulty in imagining and projecting the future. The third analyses the reasons that explain the generalized acceptance of work and life conditions and the consequent discouragement and lack of activism that characterize the interviewees, among which the current crisis plays a crucial role. The fourth, where the vision of the crisis (dimensions, responsibilities, victims, effects) is treated, shows how young people of foreign origin do not consider themselves to be penalized as such, and how they are inclined to a kind of normalization of the crisis, that can be interpreted as another sign of their inclination to adaptation. In the conclusions the reasons of both the emerged tendency to acceptance and the absence of voice are discussed in the light of the vigorous processes of individualization crossing the contemporary society.
