This short note condenses several observations triggered by two recent judgements that resulted from accusations launched at the Italian state for violence practised on its own citizens. The first is the judgement about the death of Stefano Cucchi, who was arrested, and died in the Sandro Pertini military hospital while submitted to a summary trial and in the hands of the police. The second is the judgement handed down by the European Court of Human Rights, which found Italy guilty of practising torture in the Diaz school during the disturbances against the G8 meeting in Genoa
