As a consequence of the generalized economic downturn, finding and keeping a job is today much more important than in the past. The authors reflect on the effects of the role assumed by work in our society on the psychic functioning of individuals, couples and families. With the help of clinical vignettes they discuss the problems encountered by analysts in their therapeutic action when the narcissistic myth of success at all costs prevails.
