In the light of his experience as psychologist psychotherapist and founding partner of the Consulting Center for Abusing Men in Florence, the author presents here some reflections on the need for adopting guidelines for orienting aid professionals in meeting abusers along with a systematic recording of abuse in the interview. Abusing men can be seen not only in specialized centers: many of us see them in everyday practice where they show "screen symptoms" that are not easily identifiable by a professional lacking a specific training on abuse situations. Once we have identified theoretical-methodological reference points useful for distinguishing abuse from other clinical manifestations, and for developing hypotheses on the possible mechanisms leading a man to act abusively, we provide indications for carrying out an interview focused on abuse and facilitating change based on the condition that abusers take on their responsibility.
