Despite what many contemporary philosophers claim, the article argues that metaphysical realism can - up to a certain point - be defended. Taking into account the topic "language and metaphysics", we soon realize that any formulation of a world-view is based on a shared language. This neither means, however, that language itself hides reality nor allows us to identify anti-realism and idealism. What worries the metaphysical realist is not the possibility that the real world might be totally different from the one we see; he just wants to avoid the identification of the world with any human conceptualization of it. It should thus be realized that a modest form of metaphysical realism is the best way for recognizing the independence of reality and, at the same time, our deep involvement in it.
