Some conceptions of science, which are dated in comparison not only with up-to-date epistemology, but even with medieval and ancient theories of knowledge, are still largely credited. As ideas from the past have been labelled as pre-scientific on the whole, people have been induced to disregard their importance. It is fundamental to recover the sense of historical continuity of the slow and difficult development of science in order to understand the nature and meaning not only of science, but of knowledge in general.
Keywords: Science, history, epistemology, theories, schemes, concepts.
