In this brief contribution I intend to draw a picture of the rules of private international law and international procedural law, in force in the European Union in relation to contracts related to financial instruments and to the provision of financial services to consumers. In this context, particular attention is paid to the notion of "consumer" in EU law and ECJ case-law as well as to the coordination of the technical instrument with the directives that set up substantive protection of consumers.
Keywords: Consumers’ contracts, applicable law, Rome I Regulation, financial instruments, financial services.
