Article suggests that rejection of a parent by a child (often following conflicting separations) must be evaluated and understood with particular caution and accuracy. In fact, it is possible to mistake family situations where rejection is based on an alienation process with others, where the rejected parent commits psychological abuse and illtreats the child. Both kind of families are described in their general relational patterns, and specific examples are given through reporting of real conversations with the children. Listening to the children is considered the major guide line to distinguish alienation and psychological abuse and to avoid confusion. Finally, some considerations and examples are given in view of therapeutical treatment with particular attention to convocation.
Keywords: Conflicting separations, rejected parents, alienated children, abused children, principles of evaluation, therapeutical techniques, criteria for convocation.
