Aim of this paper is to investigate the role of a father within the child development by using attachment theory. Even if, in the last years, fathers became more aware of their importance in the child psychological development, it is still clear that they escape from their role. Reasons for this low consideration of fathers are to be related to our biological evolution history.

Keywords: Fathers’role, attachment, biological evolution, genic replication, uncertainty of fatherhood, reproductive costs.
