In the context of the Spanish succession dispute, the kingdom of Sicily remained under the Bourbon rule until it was separated from the Spanish monarchy as the result of the Utrecht agreements. Sicily singled out respect to the political behavior of territories of the Spanish Italy and the Crown of Aragon. This paper examines some of the main mechanisms, spaces and actors through which political relationships of Bourbon monarchy and the Sicilian kingdom were articulated during the War of Spanish Succession, in order to characterize the basis on which the fidelity of the Sicily to the Bourbons was sustained in that crucial joint in the history of the Kingdom and of the Spanish Monarchy.
Keywords: War of Spanish Succession, Sicily, Bourbons, fidelity, pactism, politics.
