The present article aims to investigate the relationship between gender and urban space in contemporary cities, introducing some evidences emerged from an empirical research conducted in Milan. Unveiling the non-neutrality of city’s spatial dimension in producing the stratification of urban population, the work highlights the mutual construction (and deconstruction) between urban spaces and gender stereotypes and discriminations, underlining potentialities and vulnerabilities hidden behind the intersection of specific features related to these two elements. Adopting an intersectional approach, indeed, the analysis sheds some light on ambiguous discriminating processes laying on the use and the social production of spaces in a gendered perspective.
