This essay is based on a work presented during the second Conference held in Rome by LIPsiM (Italian Laboratory for Multifamily Psychoanalysis). The story of a family approaching a Multifamily Psychoanalysis Group (MFPG) is described, in order to highlight three specific features of the authors’ experience of MFPG. The first one is the ability to include in the treatment also those family members who do no take part in the group, and to reach them somehow. The second is the multi-layered effect of the encounter between the "difficult situation" the family brings to the group (usually because of a moment of crisis) and the MFPG itself, and the creative resources that can consequently arise. The third is the impact that a private, non-profit association for mental health based on a MFPG has on its surroun-dings and the reflections that the analysts working both there and in their private practices can develop about two, apparently different settings.
Keywords: Multifamily Psychoanalysis, pathological and pathogenic interdependences, creative resources, non-profit services, analytical setting, group setting.
