The Author introduces us, in this essay, to the complex theme of Pathological Gambling Disorder (PGD). To do so, he accompanies us in one of Dostoevsky’s most fascinating novels entering the narrative and studying in depth the characters. This approach reveals a multidimensional fresco between the individual, family, and society. Dostoevsky’s Player thus becomes a prism through which Prof. Luigi Cancrini updates the dimensions of PGD by creating multiple integrated reading keys. The individual dimension, through the contribution of new studies and research, traces connections with the previous studies conducted by the same author on addiction; the one related to the most significant context of the player represented by his family and the network of relationships; and finally the fundamental dimension linked to the dynamics of the groups that are embedded in the social and historical peculiarities.
