The essay studies the 1953 elections in Apulia through the relationship between politics, communication, company. The research examined the changes in society and in the Apulia policy during the first republican legislature and the debate on reforms, from agrarian reform to electoral reform. Using archival documents and printed sources, political communication during the election campaign has been studied, together with the role played by public opinion to the propaganda activities organized in Apulia by the political forces, the Catholic world, by the government. Through the election data, consulted on a municipal basis and analysed in relation to Apulia territories, the outcome of the vote was interpreted with the categories of memberships, interests, opinions and emotions. The scientific results offer some indications which may modify the interpretations of the electorate on the lines generally proposed by the national historiography.
