In this essay I survey the relationships between publishing houses and transcultural writers in Italy since 1990’s which marks the beginning of the so called migrant literature. It outlines the main editorial trends of the publishing houses since the first publications until nowadays. First, I outline the emergence of this literature and then I present the editorial choices of large and medium publishing houses. A section is dedicated to series of books of smaller publishers who give space and visibility to transcultural writers. Finally, I hint at the tension between maintaining the voice of the author and the commercial pressures of the publishing houses.
