The chapter reviews the first ten years of Sociologia del lavoro, endeavouring to highlight what the predominant representation of actors within the labour market has been, and to identify the missing, or less visible subjects. In particular, the analysis reveals that, although the majority of the contributions present as a reference figure a male, adult, full-time worker employed within the industrial sector, new figures and new working patterns in fact emerge over the same period, and are often intertwined. Specific attention shall be paid to the articles regarding women’s work, given the significance of the phenomenon and the relating debate during the considered period. The focus will mainly be on how (and by whom) the issue of female employment is progressively included and themed in the sociological debate regarding work. Moreover, three main types of contributions are identified and discussed in greater detail.
Keywords: Sociology of work, women’s work, diversity
