The paper’s title evokes a conversation; in fact, it has been constructed like a joint revisitation of Bianca Beccalli’s forty years work on labour, gender, and politics, reconsidering old challenges and facing emergent ones. The paper deals with two levels of analysis: a historical and sociological interpretation of social movements, work, and politics on the one side, while dealing on the other side with the parallel development of concepts and categories. The two levels intertwine since theories emerged out of the influence of historical developments. But they also had some influence on the course of events, as it often happens in social sciences: equality versus difference, sex and gender, the definition of justice, equal opportunities, and capabilities are good example of the continuing interface between historical facts and conceptual categories. At the end, the authors consider the 2017 mobilisation around the international women workers’ day of the 8th of March, which involve different types of working and non-working women bringing up new issues and new forms of collective actions.
