The article discusses how the Walmart strategy - as one of the symbols of the transformations in the contemporary capitalism - develops its work management practices in the Brazilian context. Based on data from field research and analysis of labor lawsuits, the author demonstrates that some practices were rejected and others have been subject to resistance. Nevertheless, she emphasizes that the management practices has transferred successfully the key elements of the company corporate ideology and promoting the arrangement between consent and intimidation in order to guarantee the low cost of work.
