The reappearance of the internal borders of the European Union has developed as a vehicle, strictly related to the migratory policies that are aimed at the non-European population. In Ventimiglia, border town between France and Italy, numerous existing policies implemented in other European borders have been enforced. The anthropological study of cross-border migration governance highlights the interconnection of this political, legal and institutional development with important transformations in the cultural construction of collective identity, citizenship and otherness. The article investigates, from an ethnographic approach, this connection between culture and social structure.
Keywords: Ventimiglia; border; migration governance; otherness; security forces.
