The essay reconstructs the editoral life of a legitimist Italian journal, "L’Amico della gioventù" (1832-1837), in the cultural context of Modena, the Italian capital of catholic intransigence in the Restoration age. The analysis of the journal’s short life enables us to follow the efforts of its editor, Francesco Galvani, to establish a literary reputation across the political boundaries of the period. The study of an interstitial figure like Galvani offers an original insight into the Italian literary world in the first half of the nineteenth century.
