This article argues the significance of pursuing, by the Universities, innovative pathways and processes of work-study transition and integration for their students aimed at decreasing and preventing the serious problem of labor demand and supply misalignment that specifically concern the young. It is possible to identify structural faults that typically characterize the work-study transition period for university students. It is also possible to resolve or alleviate the problem through the experimentation of new, innovative practices. This can generate advantages not just for the young, but also for the employers and the socio-economic context as a whole. The Percorsi di Inserimento Lavorativo/Pathways of Work Insertion case study, at the University of Ferrara, is described as an example of a novel, effective methodology which aims at transforming in a very significant way the most traditional approach.
