Marital separations in Turin (1838-1865). Between 1848 and 1861, the city of Turin experienced a high number of requests for marital separations, while the following forty years saw a return to lower numbers because of social and cultural transformations. This phenomenon bears witness to a growing sense, during the Risorgimento period, of impatience towards the family values of Restoration society, which was also shared by some of the main political leaders, despite the widespread agreement about the indissolubility of marriage.
