The proliferation of quasi-market, rented models has characterised the rearrangement of housing policy in Italy. These models aim to include middle class groups, thus reducing the relative homogeneity of public housing supply. They are associated with the notion of “social mix”, which, in Italy, tends to take the semblance of a rhetorical tool, which does not appear to be adequately problematized. This analysis focuses on the implementation of social mix policy in the context of Bergamo.
Keywords: Social mix; housing policy; public housing; social segregation; social housing.
