This paper introduces the principal school reforms of the English and Italian systems in the last few years, from a specific point of view: that of the teachers, who have lived through them. The suggestions arising from their statements have been reframed into an institutional and regulatory context, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the reforms that have modified the structure of the school systems. Some of the issues discussed are the inclusion policy, the project-based approach to teaching, the recruitment of teachers and their ever-increasing workload on top of classroom contact-time, the school curricula, the funding sys-tems, the relationship between the stakeholders – teachers, students and families – and bul-lying.
