The salient stages of the historiographical evolution of Industrial archeology explain the peculiarities and the value of the Italian contribution in the ambit of the largest European and international researches, related to the restoration, recovery and definition of value of production architectures. The in-depth analysis about the role that Regione Lombardia, some local authorities and the Politecnico di Milano have played in this area, offers a historical-critical reading of the topic, which has led to: a significant cultural change in the conservative conscience, the involvement of international fame photographers, and the connection to typologicalconfigurative concepts of design. Nowadays, important interrelations between Industrial archeology and the fragility of ecological-environmental contexts are highlighted.
Keywords: Industrial archeology; enhancement of cultural heritage; architecture of production site
