The paper reflects on the possibility of outlining a "European social model" beginning from the consideration that social justice has been conceived, in the Union, as a "product" of the protection of economic freedoms. The social rights ‘minority’ in the European Agenda has been re-affirmed by the austerity measures taken by the European institutions during the financial and economic crisis, in 2008. Recently, with the proclamation of social rights contained in the European Social Pillar (ESP), it’s going on an attempt to fill this gap, moving towards the so-called Union’s "social thaw". In the essay, the ESP will be examined with regard to the possible resources that can be used to implement the principles/rights contained therein.
