The article describes the history and the main characteristics of the Physical Identity and Psychic Identity Adjustment Service (SAIFIP). This service was born in 1992 at the hospital San Camillo to take charge of people with gender dysphoria (GD). SAIFIP offers an interdisciplinary service that pays attention to the psychological, medical-surgical and socio-legal aspects involved in the process of adaptation between physical identity and psychic identity. The characteristics of the minor area of SAIFIP which aims at taking charge of children and adolescents are also described. This area was born in 2005 following the multiple requests for help from families with minors with DG gender variance.
