The article aims to investigate three stages of diversity-disability’s spectacularisation in thefield of cultural and media industry. The Barnum Circus, the Joker (the Batman’santagonist) and the saga of the X-Men: three forms of cultural consumption which gothrough symbolic landscapes of modernity and postmodernity. On methodological point ofview, the article utilizes approaches coming from sociology of culture and discourseanalysis. The author would like to highlight the structural ambiguities which distinguish thedisability’s aestheticization process, trying to demonstrate that they, finally, after a long andcomplicated path, however, led to humanize and to set off the diversity.
Keywords: Imaginary; disability; cultural industry; Barnum Circus; The Joker; X-Men.
