This article explores the evolution of transformative learning as a theoretical framework for a pedagogy for change. It takes a critical perspective recognizing that the practice of fostering transformative learning is an elusive and an ever-shifting approach to teaching and much about it still remains unknown and poorly understood. Based on research the chapter identifies six essential components of this teaching approach, including the significance of individual experience, critical reflection, dialogue, holistic orientation, awareness of context, and authentic relationships. Along with identifying these components transformative learning as a teaching approach that requires intentional action, personal risk, a genuine concern for the learners’ betterment, and the ability to draw on a variety of methods and techniques that help create a classroom environment that supports personal growth and for others social change
