The development of a collaboration agreement between the Treviso-Belluno-Dolomites Chamber of Commerce and the Universities of Venice and Padua, for the promotion of new graduates internship at small and medium-sized local enterprises, has confronted with mismatch between labour supply and demand. But, how can brain drain co-exist with the shortage of highly-skilled labour deplored by small and medium-sized local enterprises? This paradoxical situation has had relevant consequences not only on new graduates and their families, but also on enterprises, which have been forced to scale down their development programmes. The purpose of this paper is to make the crux of the matter and its effects emerge by means of qualitative research based on semi-structured interviews to local SMEs human resources managers, trying at the same time to understand what facilities and activities can be favourable to the matching process between labour supply and demand.
