Abstract: Gambling has a pervasive diffusion in contemporary society and can result in gambling disorder (GD), which causes serious personal, family and social problems. The research project was carried out in 8 bingo halls of 6 cities of the Emilia Romagna region (Modena, Lugo, Bologna, Parma, Cesena, Cesenatico), with the following aims: a) to evaluate the incidence of problem gambling indicators, stigma for gambling, problematic consumption of alcoholics, psychophysical distress; b) assessing whether bingo halls and their operators can promote responsible gambling behaviours; c) verify the feasibility and satisfaction of socio-psycho-education interventions for the promotion of psychophysical well-being. The project was carried out in 3 phases: I) screening of the gamblers; II) focus group for operators; III) socio-psycho-education intervention. Of the 98 gamblers surveyed, 40% reported problematic behaviours and 33% stigma about gambling. The operators showed awareness and willingness to promote healthy behaviours. Psychoeducational interventions attracted gamblers who asked for information and sometimes support. The results of the project encourage actions that allow the social transformation of bingo halls from places where concealing negative habits to places where promoting healthy behaviours.
