The paper is devoted to developing an analysis of the contemporary process of self-destruction of humanity both as a species and as civilization. In a first step the attention is focused on COVID-19 pandemic, understood as a consequence of natural habitat destruction. In a second step it looks at the catastrophic process defined as ‘sixth mass extinction’, con¬sidered in terms of philosophy of biology and in relation to the topic of ‘Anthropocene’. The third and fourth steps aim to give a philosophical-political account of the concept of ‘hu¬man self-destruction’ in his theoretical and historical peculiarities
