"Moving Rome" is the title of a recent research focused on the relationship between urban imprisonment forms and the difficulty of moving within Rome’s metropolitan area. A close observation of the urbanized space around and beyond the GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare) as well as the different types of contemporary urbanization can be traced back to a new kind of settlement and to the whole set of ecological correlations and functional services that allow their survival. The working hypothesis summarized in this text focuses on flexible infrastructures declined as new ‘Landscape Infrastructures’, starting from the features of Moving Sustainably, i.e. the engine for possible reactivation of vast, precious and marginal landscapes. The interpretative hypothesis investigates several categories of the landscape project connected to ‘movement’ (continuity, inter¬section and interaction), to embody a new network of green spaces and connections serving as alternatives to cars, able to foster new forms of democratic access to the city.
Keywords: Sustainable mobility, landscape infrastructures, walkability, civic ecology.
