When the artist is a foreigner, a migrant, how can he live and work in Italy today? The research on the Piazza Vittorio Orchestra, the first Italian multi-ethnic orches-tra, started from its foundation in 2002. The initial objective was to explore the example of good practice in the integration of different ethnic immigrant groups. Structured and semi-participant observation of the concert rehearsals was con-ducted and the life stories of each musician in the different phases of the orchestra were collected over a period of 15 years. Later on, attention was focused on its in-evitable transformation and on the originality of musical creation, always rich in projects and social content.
